Who would you want to be for a day?

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting! Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post. And please be sure your avatar links back to your blog! Otherwise, when you leave a comment, people can't find you to comment back.

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

The awesome co-hosts for the March 5 posting of the IWSG are Ronel Janse Van Vuuren, Pat Garcia, and Liza @ Middle Passages!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional!

March 5 question - If for one day you could be anyone or *thing* in the world, what would it be? Describe, tell why, and any themes, goals, or values they/it inspire in you.

First off, I want to apologize for missing last month. For some reason, I thought that it was the second Wednesday of the month. It wasn't.

If I could be anyone for one day, I'd like to be my dog, Tank. He spends his day sleeping on the couch, barking at the neighbor's chickens, getting food offerings from the little kids, and then he gets to sleep on the bed at night. I guess the theme is rest and relaxation. I don't feel like I get to do that much right now and having a day where I don't have any responsibilities sounds wonderful.

I did have two wins this week. The first is that I made myself attend a local writers group. They were really nice and friendly. I can't believe it took me so long to get the nerve up to go. The other win was that I got Scrivener to work on my computer. I switched from Windows to Linux a while ago because my computer was having troubles with the Windows upgrades. I hate planned obsolescence, anyway. So I took it to the local computer shop and they put in Linux. I really like Linux except I couldn't have Scrivener and OneNote. I was procrastinating and came across a post in the Literature and Latte Forums about a beta version for Linux. It works well. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it was super easy to install for a non-techie person. (As for OneNote, I'm trying Obsidian but I'm not sold yet.)

What were your wins this week?

  1. It's never a worry if you miss a month. And some people forget and post a day or two late. You're the second person who said they would like to be their pet for a day.

It's awesome you attended a local writer's group. It's a good way to stay connected to others who like to write too.

  2. Your dog sounds like he's good a good life! I have always worked on Word, but have been curious about Scrivener.

  3. Being a dog would be fun! My dog does a lot of laying around during the day. Good for you attending a writing group and getting Scrivener to work! I tried the sample version, but I just couldn't figure it out. Maybe someday I'll put more time into it.

    1. It's a dog's life! It wasn't an easy program to learn. It took me forever!

  4. I guess it would be interesting to change places with my cat. Let me stare at him while he does the typing for a while. Let him wave the toy around for me to chase for a change. Let him give me a furry rub down at bed time. The problem is, I don't even like the smell of cat food. I sure wouldn't want to eat it.

I have used Obsidian a bit. I like that it doesn't take up much space. I'm still on Windows and have used Scrivener a bit. I might like it better if it didn't have so many bells and whistles. I get overwhelmed by too many options.

    1. Cats have the life. I feel like my cats think I'm just around to feed them.

I get it with the room many options. I find it is my favorite way to procrastinate.

  5. A dog or a cat does have more relaxing days. They sure don't have to worry doing their taxes. Although having to depend on humans to feed them or bath them is a bit troublesome.

    Have a lovely day.

  6. Who wouldn't want the luxury life of a dog?
Glad you put yourself out there with the writers group and got the program to work.

  7. Anonymously Esther O'Neill - 0G, 0 signal, slow broadband, not surprised Google finds this hard to believe. 21st C UK dead zone,
Thanks for reminding me how incredibly lucky I am. Forget GSOH, and all the rest... Definitely not techie, I met an IT star, who also hates built in obsolescence., sorted out Linix, sounds like your version too.
Even our house is 100% local materials, interior recycled from an old timber house.
Exactly a year ago, I ordered myself to try the local writers' group meeting in the town library., after missing the first one . ( car trouble) Parallel long tables looked less than friendly. Then the teacher's direction ---- Tell us about yourself...
    Froze - and haven't been back. .
Perhaps they really are lovely, but since ID fraud, a few years ago, I don't tell anybody about myself.... IWSG feels so much safer.

    1. There is something to be said about being low connectivity. Id love to be there some day. I do like Linux. I like that I don't have anything I don't need on my computer.
Writer's groups are scary. Thankfully the one I went to met at a coffee shop. I WISH is lovely!
